BOTOX^® Treatments

A million people have been treated with BOTOX^® cosmetic since its FDA approval in 2002. In fact, BOTOX^® cosmetic is the only FDA-approved treatment for the temporary reduction of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in patients 18 to 65 years of age. BOTOX^® is a purified protein. In addition to its cosmetic use, BOTOX^® was originally used in a medical capacity to treat blepharospasm, a sudden and involuntary blinking and squeezing of the eye. It is still used today as the therapy of choice to treat this condition.

BOTOX^® is a quick and minimally invasive treatment done by our surgeon in the office through a series of tiny injections into the muscles that cause frown lines. There is no anesthesia required and the entire procedure takes about ten minutes. Our surgeon is trained to know where to inject to achieve the best results. Most patients have compared the sensation of the injections to a bug bite, so discomfort is minimal and brief. Patients can resume normal activity immediately. Results from the treatment are noticeable within days and may continue to improve for up to a week. Visible results have been shown to last up to four months, after which a follow-up treatment may be received. The procedure can sometimes be accompanied by occasional mild bruising, but these effects go away quickly. Though other side effects of BOTOX^® injections are rare, they may include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop and nausea.  There are some patients that are not good candidates and your surgeon will discuss this at the time of your consult.
